Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.

The ex-president was sentenced of orchestrating a government overthrow in the ninth month and sentenced more than 27 years in incarceration, but he remained under home detention pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a safety action after "new facts" were revealed.

This encompassed attempting to break his tracking device and a summons to a demonstration that could facilitate a possible escape.

Judicial Records Show Escape Risks

In a paperwork permitting the detention, the magistrate said information from the facility tracking his home detention suggested the one-time head of state's "intention to break the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his flight.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the chaos caused by the gathering called by his son.

His offspring, his son Flávio, who works as a legislator, called for a gathering of his followers near the former president's residence to take place on the weekend.

His son wrote on digital networks on Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your nation, or watch it all from your mobile device there on your settee? I call on you to fight with us."

He said the vigil would be so followers could seek divine intervention for his well-being and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our nation."

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

Part of Justice Moraes's ruling was the possibility of his transfer to embassies near the dwelling, considering that the probes revealed a record of organizing to seek refuge through a diplomatic representation", a declaration said.

The judicial paperwork emphasizes that the US embassy in the capital, Brazil's capital, is positioned around 13km from the former president's residence.

International Reactions

The former president's legal troubles have provoked anger from fellow populist conservative United States President Trump, prompting him to implement a 50% tariff on goods coming from Brazil.

He is being kept in a national police facility in the capital and will experience a imprisonment assessment on Sunday.

Recent Legal Requests

It was only on Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Supreme Court to allow him to fulfill his full incarceration period under home confinement, with tracking devices.

They also asked that he be permitted to leave his home for medical care, saying he required ongoing care for pulmonary infections and other illnesses.

Context of Sentencing

Bolsonaro was convicted of leading a plot aimed at maintaining his control after he failed to win the 2022 election to his ideological adversary, Lula.

Supreme Court justices said that he knew of a plan which included plans to assassinate his opponent and his vice-presidential running mate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to imprison and murder the presiding judge - the High Court judge who has been overseeing Bolsonaro's trial.

The plot was stopped because it didn't receive the support of the army and air force commanders. The current president was inaugurated without issue on January 1st, 2023.

But a week later, on the eighth of January, thousands of Bolsonaro supporters stormed and vandalised public facilities in the capital, Brazil's capital.

The security forces took action and around approximately 1,500 persons were arrested.

The justices found that the demonstrators had been encouraged by Bolsonaro whose strategy, they said, was for the national armed forces to take action, reestablish control and reinstate his authority.

At the moment, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the decades-long sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also prohibited from seeking elected position until the year 2060 - eight years after the conclusion of his imprisonment.

The ex-leader called the legal proceedings a political persecution and said it was intended to stop him running in the 2026 national vote.
